One of the hardest things for me when learning Spanish is figuring out how to change the verbs. There are a lot of different forms. Sure, there are patterns that can help you figure out the right form if you think about it for a bit. But then, some verbs don’t follow the rules. And the biggest thing is, when we’re talking in everyday life, we don’t have time to stop and think about these patterns. We need to know the right verb form right away. Duolingo helps me somehow. Some other Spanish sites are useful, too. However, I wanted to focus on verb conjugations.
As a software engineer, I’ve decided to develop a tool similar to a flashcard quiz to aid in my study of verb conjugation. The features I needed include:
- A quiz that presents a random verb, subject, and tense each time.
- A way to see which questions I answered correctly and which ones I got wrong.
- A focus on everyday verbs for the verb candidates.
- The option to select specific tenses for study, as I haven’t yet learned the future tense.
As I mentioned in a previous blog post, my family and I moved to Mexico a year ago. We’re all making an effort to learn Spanish at our own pace. While one of us might be familiar with the subjunctive tense, another might only know the present tense. Therefore, being able to choose the verb tenses I want to focus on is crucial for me.
It took me a few weeks to create https://spanish-quiz.com. I incorporated as much feedback from my family as I could. We use this tool daily, in addition to others. While we’re not the most fluent Spanish speakers yet, we’re gradually improving; estamos mejorando poco a poco. Our confidence in Spanish verb conjugation is growing stronger than it was before.
I’m excited to share this tool with everyone — it’s completely free! I’m eager to hear your feedback. If there’s any feature you think could make learning Spanish more enjoyable and effective for both you and us, please let me know.
